Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Stephen Y — 06 Jun 2017
I will be the first one to admit I was a doubter for this movie after Batman v. Superman failed spectacularly. But oh boy was I wrong. Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins delivered possibly the best superhero movie since the Dark Knight.
Wonder Woman went back to the basics and gave us everything that makes superhero movies great. For too long have the writers been trying too hard to outsmart the audience and put out something clever, which often ends disastrously i.
E. the Martha moment in BvS. Wonderful things can happen when you just write a solid script and leave it to the director and actors to make it great. And at last we need a final sequence that is worthy of the climax.
The whole anti-climatically witting out final battles was getting old. I was unsure about Gal Gadot's ability to lead a whole movie, as was many people, but she more than made her case here that she can hold her own.
She was fearless, charismatic, and extremely relatable. Wonder Woman is a well-crafted old-school emotional Superhero movie, and it proved once and for all that you don't need to tailor scripts for female superhero leads.
They will do just fine.
