Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Anuj & A — 06 Jun 2017
First Watch 85/100.
Loved the whole lore of the Amazons being on an island. CGI was kind rough at times on the island. I was really invested in Diana and the characters from the very beginning, loved how they kept who she really was a secret. I loved the overprotective mom aspect of the movie. Loved when Antiope finally tells Hippolyta to train Diana 10x harder than any other Amazon thats an outloud "heck yeah moment" and it transitions to Diana as an adult kicking the crap out everyone. Suprisingly this movie is maranating really well in my head and its not forgetabble at all and I think about it a lot and I'm excited to watch it again. This is literally the third time I have reviewed this movie. The battle on the beach is without a doubt one of the best if not the best comic book action sequence of all time. The slow motion was so good. (I feel like cursing a lot to describe things but I think Flixster will block it.) When Hippolyta or Antiop I dont remember and shoots 3 people with an arrow its lit AF FAM. I actually felt invested and felt emotional every time an Amazon died in that fight and you really get a feel for how weak they are fighting with swords and arrows when the Germans have rifles. They probably over utilized the slow motion thing just a tad but it was incredible. I loved when steve said "they have guns right?" when the Amazons were all Lit af fire beasts and were on the cliff waiting for the Germans. The comedic moment between Diana and Steve were they talk about being above avreage male and when Diana says "what is that?" Anyways so the fish out of water story with Diana is good I guess with her not knowing anything about marriage, cars, fashion and other subjects we recognize. It really makes u question at times wether her simple solution to everything is the right one. Diana has a really two dimensional opinion on right and wrong in this movie saying that it must be Ares that is influencing the Germans with no one really beleving her. It's funny how she takes her coat of in the middle of the city to reveal her battle clothes which make her appear nearly nude compared to other women its also hilarious how she would carry her sword and shield everywhere and would protect it with her life. The action sequence in the alley with the spies was lit af. In general this movie has amazing action sequences which is something I have never recognized in a movie before. Its lit af how theyre in the ww1 trenches and steve has this complicated plan to get to the other side and Diana plays algo for like two seconds and then goes YOLO straight into no mans land. YO THAT WAS FUGKING LIT FAM YOOO THAT WAS LIT AFFFFF FAM THAT WAS LIT AFFFF FAM HELL YEAH. So anyways the next best moment is when Diana goes ape on a bunch of soldiers and the wonder woman theme plays out of nowhere. O and when she knees the Tower holy SHIIII T man that was lit Af fam. The whole thing fell its like an outloud holy crap moment. Anyways so so far the movie is incredible. Then it slows down has its ups and downs and we see Diana fight Ludredoff. Gotta be honest I was kinda zoning out during this part and its cool when Diana kills.Ludredoff who she beleives in Ares and looks to see that the Germans are still trying to attack London. And she like WTF MAN THATS NOT COOL AND kinda gives up on humanity for a while (that part was cool that and her walking into the chemical bomb were the only 2 cool parts of the second half of the movie) As I said its mediocre at times and sometimes good and sometimes bad. Ares was a huge fucking miscast HORRIBLE villan who poses a question about humanity that I honestly didnt care about. Steve dies but at that point the movies so bad I dont care at all. Wonder Woman goes ape on Ares kills him quick but it doesnt feel earned it feels cheap. Ares is such a miscast hes not meanacing or scary. The fight was so bad like they ran out of ideas and didnt know of new ways to fight. The very last 2 or 3 minutes leave you coming out on a bad note. BTW 2 of my friends walked out during the Ares fight.
Before the clock tower scene Wonder Woman prob a 92/100 or more a masterpeice the rest is like a 70 or 72 but the Ares fight is like a 40 or 50 out of a 100.
As I said Im thinking about this movie a lot and maranaiting really well in my head cant wait to watch it again.
