Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Isadore H — 07 Jun 2017
Wonder Woman is the latest from the DCEU, and possibly the best one yet (even though I rather enjoyed the directors cut of Batman v Superman and I'm sort of leaning towards that over this currently.
I know, kill me) Gal Gadot completely owns her role and reminds everyone why they were excited to see her in Batman v Superman, despite mixed initial thoughts. Chris Pine is also really good, and serves as a great backup to Gadot, but make no mistake, this is a female-lead superhero film, and a rather good one at that.
The action is fantastic to watch, and the story hardly feels like it skips a beat. Despite these positives, I could've done without the first and last 5ish minutes of the film, and the final showdown, while awesome, just felt like it wasn't trying hard to be something different.
This was a tad disappointing because the rest of the movie was just really good and fresh. There is definitely feminism in this film, but not the man-hating, bra-burning type which is nice to see a change of pace from recent films *cough 2016 ghostbusters cough*.
Wonder Woman proves that not only can a female lead comic book film work, but it can also inspire.
