Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Merijn J — 06 Jan 2018
You just can't count on critics to have any critical faculties worth a damn, if this is what they suck up. The audience I expect such brainless gushing from. This multi-million dollar waste is brainless cartoon fare with hokum in place of a heart and laughable cliches for a moral.
Suited for an undiscriminating audience seeking escapist entertainment with a two-dimensional heroine, this is the kind of big-budget fantasy that Hollywood keeps popping out because millions suck it up like sodas with junk food.
Sure, Gal Gadot is a sexy babe, but she has about as much depth as the pages of a comic book she sprung from. It's worse seeing a decent actor like Chris Pine straining to make his flat character go through awkward stammering and earnestness that's laughable.
See him in "Hell or High Water" for a vastly superior film and performance. If you have any dignity or standards left, tell the studios they aren't in Disneyland and we all deserve something genuine, even if it's got to be escapist tales in which we hear that "only love can save the human race".
That's real love, not shallow and silly films pretending to honor it.
