4 Batman reboots, 9 movies. 3 Spiderman reboots, 6 movies. 3 Superman reboots, 7 movies. And they’re just the ones I can remember. Name me a good superhero movie with a female lead. Having trouble? Well look no further now you have one.
The story starts off well, giving you all the intro you need, it also isn’t afraid to take some surprisingly dark turns but more importantly Gal Gadot completely owns the role. She’s perfect for Wonder Woman and you can clearly see that because let’s face it you couldn’t tell from her cameo in Batman V Superman.
It was a very good idea to hand this over to Patty Jenkins so I’m relieved to say I liked it. Not loved, it’s good but maybe not as good as it could have been. I’m willing to overlook the use of slow motion I’m even going to overlook the unnecessary jokes about “ooh your sword totally doesn’t go with your dress.
” But unfortunately I can’t overlook the last 20 minutes. The biggest problem with Wonder Woman is a superhero movie is only as good as its villain and unfortunately this is one of DCs worst. It was very disheartening to see this film descend into a very sloppy ending, the story practically giving up.
All the work around gods and war completely undone. Meanwhile you have a villain spouting every cringey bad guy line from every movie you can think of, all while surrounded by lots fire and explosions.
Yawn. A disappointing end to an otherwise great movie but of course I’ll recommend it because it’s enjoyable, entertaining and you’ll just love Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
