Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Jess_Hill — 01 Jun 2017
Yes! Finally, an excellent film for the DC universe that holds her own against others in the genre. This is a thoroughly enjoyable experience, with dynamic cinematography, solid pacing, delightful script, and engaging storyline, I was utterly charmed by this film which I had serious doubts about.
Gadot is superb, and while she isn't quite the Amazonian I'd always pictured, her performance is exceptional, with the rest of the cast providing polished support. The action sequences are magnificent, though I wanted to be able to see more, and some moments are too frenetic to follow, which is occasionally frustrating.
I particularly enjoyed the delicate balance between objectification and celebration that could have marred this film, and I was thoroughly impressed by the deft handling of what could have been an exercise in the male gaze, and instead revels in introducing the genesis story of a fiercely intelligent, powerful, awesome superhero.
9.
