Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Maga_Man — 01 Jun 2017
Terrible. The fish-out-of-water comedy stuff was basically just there so Diana could constantly snark about how her fake all-woman society is so much better ("why don't the generals fight on the front lines?" uh, because they're not superpowered and invincible?). The romance fell flat as Chris Pine is a very decent actor, but come one people, the guy is clearly gay. Nothing wrong with that but it wrecks the chemistry. Meanwhile the main villain is totally blah and barely even does anything in the movie, since they are really trying to make a period rom-com instead of an action movie and can't be bothered to build up a dramatically interesting conflict.
I strongly suspect the critics are using kid gloves here since it's supposed to be a "feminist" movie (just like with Ghostbusters last year), but once you peel back the political correctness there's not much to really enjoy here.
