Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Aaran C — 04 Jun 2017

DC have had such a poor run recently when it comes to their cinematic universe, which is why I wasn't as excited about this movie as perhaps I should have been. Batman V Superman and particularly Suicide Squad were so incredibly average, which considering they contain some of the most iconic comic book characters in the world, was just criminal.

Therefore it came as a very pleasant surprise to discover that Wonder Woman is not only DC's best comic book adaptation to date alongside The Dark Knight, but arguably one of the best comic book movies period.

What DC has really failed to nail in the past, is a balance between the sad and more depressing parts of a film with the uplifting and humorous side. This movie does a great job of that. Being set In WW1 there are obviously some very sad and upsetting moments, but they are countered very well by some genuinely funny moments without ever being disrespectful to that point in human history.

Our leading lady Gal Gadot does a great job and has some brilliant moments, not just during the films fantastic fight scenes but some great one liners during some really entertaining scenes with Chris Pine and the rest of the equally impressive cast.

This film very much sets the bench mark for DC moving forward, and long may it continue.
