Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Sean Z — 04 Jun 2017
This movie has the feels, and pulls on that emotional thread in the first quarter. It was definitely refreshing from the other DCEU films and hopefully Warner continues this trend.
A reason why this movie felt refreshing and original is that not only did it have a female lead, but she was surrounded by female support. Almost all of the few blockbuster films with a female lead, like Zero Dark Thirty (also a female lead and female director), had that lead supported by men. For Wonder Woman, the first quarter to a third of it had Woman to support her. It did feel a little uncomfortable at first, but I realized that's only because this was something I've rarely seen from the movie industry.
If you're looking for a action film, without the typical boy meets girl, boy rescues girl romance involved, this is your film. Action was on point. There was a little bit a romance, done perfectly well without the stereotypical romance script from other blockbusters, but it didn't overshadow the main story.
Wonder Woman is definitely the best DCEU film released so far. Here's to hoping justice league and the batman solo film can live up to the standards set by this movie.
