As soon as that guy appeared on screen, I called it that he would turn out to be a baddie!

Anyway, the movie...it's fairly standard superhero stuff really. Nothing especially ground-breaking. I'm sure feminists were revelling in the fact it's a woman, and there are a couple of scenes in particular that play to that audience. I can imagine them getting pretty excited about the premise and laughing heartily at a couple of the jokes. And to be honest I can only imagine the feminist angle is why it's getting so much effusive praise. Because otherwise, it really does just tread the usual superhero ground.

Now I like superhero movies, but I do prefer the Marvel Universe. There's something about DC that's consistently just more silly. Except for Batman maybe. But even Batman has the potential to be remarkably silly in the wrong hands. I mean, Robin, ladies and gentlemen. Christopher Nolan did well to mostly keep him out of his trilogy. Actually, now that I think about it, Batman could be exceptionally daft. Nolan gets all the credit for making that world believable.

Maybe I've just stumbled across a theory here. It's this. All DC characters are inherently silly, and you need a genius director who can handle the source material with dexterity to produce something that isn't. I don't think this movie does that. It's still pretty daft.

Good daft. But still daft.
