Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Nick O — 26 Sep 2018
So I watched Man of steel which I loved,.
I watched batman v superman dawn of justice which made me sooo excited about the dceu and the upcoming justice League movie.
However there was still one movie left to go..
Wonder Woman.
So excited after reading the many, many positive reviews.. I really felt like this was going to be another win.
Straight away, after seeing Themyscira I was like. Okay this is a really different movie then i've seen so far from the DCEU.
The island felt very CGI and fairytale like. However likeable and beautiful.
Especially when wee start following a growing Diana (Gadot).
The growing up part was done in a really clever way. It wasn't to fast, easy to follow and also not to slow filled with unnecessary details.
Their are some moments that, for me, felt like... oke this is like really, really fake and weird. To much CGI maybe? It just felt off.
For example when Steve's (Pine) plain crashes in the ocean and it sinks... I don't know why but is looks so fake.
The same goes for when he is in the plane and he bombs the building where they where doing the experiment with the gas.. when the camera's goes back to Steve it really looks like the surrounding is being filmed on a canvas and the plane is just hanging there on a rope or something.
And what's which the barrier? it seems a little bit easy to find doesn't it? and yes, in those day they didn't have radar/sonar/gps etc. but really? Fog?
And by the way... what's up with being able to create a baby out of clay? like... really? did I miss the part where they came up with a better solution about how a child is born without a men around? or is it actually a god who created it? sorry, I found it confusing and only explained at the almost end.
In superman or batman (movies) we don't have these kind of gods or mythology so I was a little bit thrown of my game.
When the moment came she finally decided to do something about the war.
Wauw just wauw.
The slow motion climbing the latter.
Talking about power.
From the acting to the shooting, beautiful.
And then she walks over the field and the dream is destroyed..
The bright colours of her armour made it look a little cheap so I was happy when the slow motion stopped and another great shot came to live. Hiding behind her shield when taking heavy fire.. gorgeous.
The smashing trough windows en the high jumping however looked so unrealistic. So I think maybe I'm having a trouble with the CGI in this movie in general.
I think the movie got a lot of the credits due to fact the main character is a woman. Which is great! And Gadot does a amazing job!
All the actors are amazing, so is the script.
And despite the great actors, the nice script, the great message.
I can't believe this movie got a better review then dawn of justice or man of steel.
I am however excited to see more of her in justice league. And to see her next to Bruce Wayne. Which I hope will still be Ben Affleck after the first league movie.
Can't wait.
