Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by David D — 07 Jul 2017
Not as earth-shatteringly awesome as the pop-culture buzz suggests (just as BvS isn't remotely as bad as the internet pretends), but a very good, solid origin/solo film for the character. Gal Gadot is as perfectly cast for the character as RDJ is for Iron Man.
There's an old-fashioned vibe in play that works well with the innocence of the character and made me think, if only briefly, of old school adventures like Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's escapism in the best sense, focusing more on timeless, universal values like love, heroism and sacrifice than the specific debates of our day.
DC needed a critical success regardless of box office. This will work.
