Review of Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) by Gregory_V2 — 26 Dec 2020
The movie's premise is so insane and nonsensical that it has a hard time setting up constraints to wrangle in its own potential plot. The wishing plot is impossible to make a movie out of because the entire movie could be solved at any point by the right character making the right wish? Why didn't Chris Pine just wish for Madalorian's wish never to have happened? Why didn't Mandalorian have someone wish that nobody could stop him?
A few questions for you to ask yourself -.
How do renounced/cancelled wishes work? Does everything get undone from that point in time onwards, or does it work as if the wish never happened?
Why doesn't Diana ever use her invisibility powers other than one time for one cool scene that they never explain or come back to?
Why was the entire beginning of the movie included?
Why do the people go from referring to Diana as a mysterious woman who nobody has pictures of and may or may not exist to saying to each other "where's Wonder Woman?!?" by the end of the movie?
And the explanation for Mando granting wishes to everyone across the world is nonsense - that particles will be beamed down from the TV studio, and those particles "touching people" counts as physical contact with him... He might as well go around spitting on people and telling them to wish for a million bucks.
The movie world was also just not immersive. Namely, when Diana walks through the city in chaos - it looks too staged.
Also when Mandalorian wished to turn into the stone, he should have literally morphed into the stone.
