Review of Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) by Glagaire — 26 Dec 2020
We already had a passable Wonder Woman movie (maybe 6/10) and it is absolutely possible to have a 10/10 movie - this is an amazing character. However, this movie is actually painful to watch in terms of everything it does bad that could have been good.
There are far too many to list but in the first 10 minutes alone you will see the worst CGI of the past decade (Raimi's Spiderman was better), a weird effort to incorporate slapstick elements aimed at small children, pantomime level reaction-acting from supporting cast and extras, and for some reason Wonder Woman trying to be both Spiderman (swinging form 'webs') and Captain America (throwing her decidedly non-aerodynamic tiara).
Superhero movies are supposed to be outlandish but this seems to have been made by someone who didn't grow up reading comics (including Diana's long and complex history) but rather had them explained to her by a studio executive.
