Review of Wonder Man (1945) by Sherry L — 21 Feb 2010
My favorite Danny Kaye-movie! Though I should perhaps mention that in the moment I write this I haven't seen The Court Jester yet (!). But still this is THE movie with Danny Kaye. If you love Danny, you should definately see this. He's even more crazy then usual.
Nightclub entertainer, Buzzy Bellew (Danny Kaye) witness a murder and just a few days later he himself is murdered. But Buzzy returnes to earth as a ghost and starts to haunt his still living twin brother Edwin Dingle (also Danny Kaye) to make him help the police to get gangster boss, "Ten Grand" Jackson. Edwin is looking identicaly like his dead brother but has a very different personality. While Buzzy was this goofy, popular entertainer and Edwin is a quiet bookworm who's working with writing history books.
Both brothers were engaged, Buzzy to club entertainer Midge (Vera Ellen) and Edwin to librarian Ellen (Virginia Mayo), and Edwin gets into some trouble when he meets Buzzy's girlfriend Midge.
Wonder Man, is a very entertaining movie, occasionally hilarious (specially the Park-scene) with lots of memorable singing perfomances by Danny and Vera Ellen and also some very skilled dancing numbers with Vera. Watch it! It's really worth the time.
