Review of Wonder Boys (2000) by Ian A — 06 May 2008
Excellent flick. It's basically a more whimsical version of American Beauty, the rare comedy that combines pathos and humour without overegging either of them. Tobey Maguire fares least well out of the actors, but everyone else is on fire (particularly Douglas and Downey Jr, the latter of whom is a fearless actor).
Despite being a tad baffling (how does an ass like Grady get so many woman to fall for him), it's well-made and good with genuine character moments.
