Review of Wonder Boys (2000) by Michael S — 27 Sep 2008
A really enjoyable and diverting little slice of eccentricity, bad behavior, sexual confusion, stoner paranoia, campus cavorting, midife crisis, hood-jumping (hard to explain), pet assasination, reverse writer's block (I guess that would be writer's diarreah?) and the search for the elusive tidy (if not truly happy) ending.
A magnificent performance by Michael Douglas, surrounded by an equally magnificent supporting cast, and a clever, witty screenplay (which is a very adequate adaptation of Michael Chabon's novel) all add up to a more than worthwhile weekend retreat into chaos.
A new classic.
