Review of Wonder Boys (2000) by Phil B — 01 Jun 2009
A career best turn from Michael Douglas is outdone further by Toby Maguire and Robert Downey in the perfect chill out movie about a tenured writing professor who has chilled out a little too much and lost his way somewhat. The photography of a snowladen Pittsburgh is beautiful and the soundtrack by Bob Dylan and Neil Young, as well as Van Morrison is perfect.
Curtis Hanson - director of the immortal LA Confidential - makes yet another superb movie that is funny, warm and really, really positive (not like Confidential then....).
