Review of Wonder Boys (2000) by Charles H — 03 Jan 2010
WONDER BOYS, is a film that will be found somewhere on my list of 10 favorite films. A small, oddball little film with a quirky, dark sense of humor and a cast of eccentric characters. It deals with a writer in the midst of writers block and mid-life crisis.
Also it is based on a book by one of my favorite writers, Michael Chabon, who also co-wrote the screenplay. But with those reasons aside the cast is terrific and the characters they play have their own immediate issues to wrestle with and do so over one weekend at Grady Tripps (Michael Douglas in an award caliber performance)during the literary festival at the university where the cast of characters are either professors, writers, students, Deans and literary agents.
Michael Douglas, Toby Maguire, Robert Downey Jr., Francis McDormand, Katie Holmes, Rip Torn. Directed by Curtis Hanson. This film is most highly recommended.
