Review of Wonder (2017) by Rachel T — 23 Nov 2017
This film was pretty good. I've read this book twice, and yes, I can say the book is a more fulfilling experience. The story is just told in such a simplistically beautiful way and I remember some lines and specific story elements from it even today, and I read that book four years ago.
I don't think this film truly captures the book, mainly because I don't think it captures the characters essences as well, and not because of the acting, because of the writing. If you haven't read the book though, I think this is a pretty good film to see.
The acting in this film is superb 99% of the time and it did make me tear up. One thing I felt was interesting about this movie was that although I knew how the book ended, I was surprised at how early the film ended.
I would say this is mostly a good thing, as it alludes to the fact that I was enjoying the movie so much, I didn't realize how much time had passed. But, I also think this is partly because the film isn't very coherent.
It's told in a very choppy manner and I personally loved it, but I don't think most people would. All in all, I would definitely recommend this charming film to anyone who hasn't read the book.
