Review of Wonder (2017) by Haley K — 29 Nov 2017
Auggie Pullman, played by Jacob Tremblay, is determined to be an astronaut when he gets older. But in order for Auggie to do so, he has to conquer the unthinkable task of middle school. He has been homeschooled by his mom, living his life behind an astronaut helmet, and playing with his best friend Daisy, his dog.
For Auggie to feel somewhat normal, his parents have decided that he needs to venture out and found that the best time would be the first year of middle school. In their minds, everyone would be new to the school, and they would all be nervous about having to adjust to a new environment.
Although something as simple as middle school doesn't sound like a hard thing, his older sister Via explains it, Auggie won the lottery without getting anything great out of it. At the time when Auggie was born, his parents carried the same gene at the same time leading Auggie to a life with Treacher Collins Syndrome, and facial deformities, that lead to him being self-conscious about getting out of his comfort zone.
Although he won the unfortunate lottery of his diagnoses, he hit the jackpot with his supportive parents and his sister Via.
