Review of Women in Trouble (2009) by Dave C — 03 Nov 2009
A harmless but otherwise bland exhibition of what the title of the movie is - Women in Trouble.
The movie is a story of a bunch of loosely interconnected women who are, as the title states, "in trouble." The concept works well enough. The stories connect, but there isn't a whole lot of meaning behind the connection except to serve as a gimmick. It works a lot better than Trick r' Treat, another film with connected storylines that I just watched, but alas, it just seems like a gimmick, successful as it may be.
My biggest issue with this movie is how bland it is. There are some funny moments for sure, but more so than any other movie I can recall, this one feels like something you'd see on stage. From the extremely minimal camerawork right down to the way the actors read their lines. I felt like I was watching a filmed play. And while this would probably make a truly tremendous play, the material doesn't translate to the screen very well.
The female eye candy is abundant and at times boner-inducing. Carla Gugino is one of the most attractive women on the planet, and although she plays a porn star in this film, the most we get is her in her skivvies. For shame! All the other women are moderately talented and extremely good to look at. I don't know why I felt the need to mention this, but there you go.
So basically, all I took from this movie were a few attractive women to gawk at and bland direction. This had potential, and it could have been better, but as it stands, it's just a harmless little film that might be worth your time if this is your kinda thing.
