Review of Woman of the Year (1942) by Victor L — 16 Nov 2009
George Stevens wasn't a very good director, Woman of the Year is not the great romantic comedy I was waiting for seeing. From minutes 37 to 70, the film is boring and messy, I thought I was watching another movie, completely different from the first half an hour when the picture is charming.
I didn't like Tracy's character, too selfish and arrogant. Hepburn shines and once again plays the feminist woman who has to cede to slow down her job and multiple activities to be a "real woman".
The film represents an age when married women had to die for the external world to make their husbands happy, care the children and have a warming home... I really disagree with this archaic point of view.
