Review of Woman in the Dunes (1964) by Ian I — 15 Aug 2007
An existentialist horror film...about sand. A rare instance of an already brilliant novel being turned into an even better film. Cinematography, sound, score, acting, everything is top-notch. I'm kind of in love with Teshigahara's use of distance (practically every shot is either extremely close up or far away and obstructed somehow), and it doesn't hurt that both the leads are really easy on the eyes.
