Review of Woman in the Dunes (1964) by Peter H — 13 Sep 2007
Great psychological drama/thriller by Teshigahara about a man who is lured by villagers into a deep sandpit where a woman lives. An existentalist parable or allegory in which the rolling sand seems to fall over and overwhelm him.
Great themes of existence, purpose, isolation and individuality is explored using breathtaking and stunning visual and cinematic techniques. Gorgeous movie which will leave you thinking a long time afterwards.
