Review of Woman in the Dunes (1964) by Frédéric I — 27 Aug 2010
Possibly the most underrated film of all time, it is not worse than the japanese classics like Seven Samurai or Rashomon(ok, not better than Ugetsu).
The movie is a metaphor about the modern couple, the movie is mesmerizing, gorgeously directed and also well acted. Watching Suna No Onna, is like feeling the character's emotion, thanks to Teshigahara brilliant direction. Is almost like you could touch the couple on scream.
The sex scene is possibly one of the best moments in movie history, one of those scenes that will stay in your mind forever.
After all that, Do I still need to say it's a masterpiece?
Final Rating: 10.
