Review of Woman in Gold (2015) by Allison S — 30 Jul 2015
This Borderlands history of 1930s-era Austria and America is told from the point of view of an Austrian-American refugee in her latter years. It is a story of conflict and personal rediscovery of an older individual. Despite seeking peace within her transatlantic identity, she crosses the boundary between former wealth and present working-class, and discovers a cultural borderland that includes herself, her lawyer and another individual who is in search of redemption from his own inherited past. This borderland study reveals a little known world of art and music that traversed an international, political, cultural and ideological miasma.
