Review of Wolf Creek (2005) by Jason J — 05 Jun 2010
Intense and harrowing Australian horror as 3 friends head to the Outback in their car to Wolf Creek to see a huge meteor crater. When they come back to their car they find it doesn't start. Stuck with nowhere close to go for help, salvation comes at nightfall when a kindly bushman named Mick comes along and tows them back to a remote deserted mining outpost reassuring them that he'll fix their car by the morning after they have a good night's sleep. Come the next morning and the 3 friends realise that Mick has drugged them up and has no intention of fixing their car. Now it's a life or death battle for survival as they try and escape from the madman.
This is a gripping edge-of-your-seat horror and it is allegedly based on a true story. Starts out quite slow but picks up around half way through. The cinematography is gorgeous showing the isolation of the Australian Outback. John Jarratt gives a solid performance as the evil sadistic bushman Mick Taylor. You think at first he's a nice ordinary bloke willing to help some troubled tourists but his cruel persona soon comes to the surface. Wolf Creek is an unrelenting and terrifying horror movie which is worth taking a look.
