Review of Wolf Creek (2005) by Al M — 23 Jun 2011
Wolf Creek appeared in the midst of the Torture Porn craze: Saw, Hostel, Turistas, the Chainsaw Massacre remake, The Hills Have Eyes remake, etc., and it shares a general aesthetic with those film as well as a general storyline.
Like Hostel, Chainsaw, or Turistas, Wolf Creek is a film about unwary youngsters journeying to not-so-nice parts of the world and paying the price for upsetting the locals. That being said, while Wolf Creek is derivative in many ways, Greg McLean injects it with stylish directing and a brutality that makes up for the film's unoriginality.
A solid endeavor and a director worth watching.
