Review of Wolf Creek (2005) by Sophie T — 02 Jan 2013
You got to ask yourself: what kind of warped mind realises something like this and makes it into a film? Well, Greg McLean has one of those minds apparently. Aside from beautiful shots of Australia (and I find it unsettling that critics have penned this as one of Australia's greatest films on that basis alone), this is deeply offensive and exploitative drivel.
Not only is it not based on fact, it is incredibly unoriginal in every last device that it utilises for shock and scare tactics. Two girls are helplessly and ruthlessly murdered (spoiler...alert!~)Wes Craven and Tobe Hopper should never have been given the cash to make movies because this is what it has spawned.
..I don't think there is any film enthusiast out there who would enjoy this but like Gasper Noe's films, it has power in it's noteriety. People will be lured in to watch it and then afterwards wonder what was the point and why do I have these nightmares?! My principles define this as fundementally wrong, just as I do the daily horrors that are reported in the news from the around the depraved parts of this world.
