Review of Wolf Creek 2 (2013) by Dannyboy S — 17 Mar 2014
I didn't have much faith in this movie, despite being in the making for nine years. I'd basically lost interest, but I gave it a shot, though I've never really cared too much for the original film.
I was annoyed straightaway when we're told this sequel is based on actual events. Who knows why such claims are necessary - all fiction is based on actual events! - that's where ideas come from.
It doesn't make things scarier at all when you say that - it's pathetic. And as the movie progressed, it got more and more unreal! It's not a scary movie in the least, but it is awfully graphic, in the vein of torture porn, which I suppose is an appealing type of horror for me, even if it's all too easy.
I really wasn't enjoying myself much for a good portion of the running time. The victims weren't interesting or relatable, and I was feeling a massive indifference towards them. I was kinda bored, but really, why was I? This movie is a semi-exciting rip-off of 'The Hitcher' meets 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre', mostly due to the atmosphere it created.
I endorse that. I guess I was won over a little, but you have to wait for the 'Australian History' quiz to understand Mick properly. At that point, things got super-interesting. It felt good that he abhors foreigners, though not in a racist way.
He hates their ignorance of Australian culture. That's good. He's a serial killer to root for.
