Review of Witness for the Prosecution (1957) by Nandi C — 24 Mar 2012
Laughton's powerhouse performance and the literate script anchor the film, a solid entry in director Wilder's filmography. As a courtroom drama, it follows the usual formula (though it inserts enough eccentricity to keep things fresh), but as a mystery, it excels, and the plotline - while employing what one could consider "twists" - doesn't feel like it cheats (which, granted, some Christie plots could be accused of).
