Review of Witness (1985) by Adrian Z — 17 Nov 2013
Beautiful depiction of Amish life comes under threat when Amish boy (Haas) witnesses a bloody murder during a trip to the city with his mother (MCGillis). Violence prone detective (Ford) takes them under his custody, but when it turns out the killers are crooked cops, the best place to hide is fact in Amish county.
Weir's US debut is rather more romantic drama than thriller, as Ford comes to grips with the Amish way of life, and romance blossoms between him and McGillis. Weir's unhurried pacing, and the thoughtful performances make this a very watchable thriller, even if the "thrills" per se are modest.
