A spectacular action thrill ride from director Peter Weir with a delightful cast and a stellar story. Ford plays detective John Book who is investigating the murder of a policeman. The only witness to the crime is a small Amish boy (Haas) who is reluctant to help.

To protect himself and the boy, Book hides out in the old Amish country while he figures out his next move. Oscar winning script does the film justice, and it has a surprisingly decent ending. Ford is in one of his strongest performances of his career and most of the supporting cast is terrific as well.

The film tends to bog during the middle when Book is learning the ways of the Amish, then the action packed ending rolls around that was worth waiting for. Overall a movie worth seeing, perhaps a little bit more action and a bit less back-story might have made it better.
