Review of Without Limits (1998) by Robin W — 17 Aug 2008
Excellent biopic was unfairly overlooked on its original release, probably due to the fact that TWO Steve Prefontaine films were being released around the same time, when the public's interest in his story was pretty much nonexistent.
However, this is clearly the far superior Prefontaine picture, thanks to the strong performances by Billy Crudup and Donald Sutherland, and the stellar direction of Robert Towne. Like with his equally underrated "Personal Best", Towne proves himself to be a master at showcasing the excitement of track and field, and even if you already know the outcome, Prefontaine's climactic race at the Munich Olympics should leave you on the edge of your seat.
