This film is as subtle as a hammer on your mothers china. Unloads tons of stuff especially when you are close to 30-sth. Bitter sweet. Silly-funny-sad-melodramatic-painful. Kinda like real life... or at least through thespians lenses.

Withnail & I is one of those movies that acquire cult-status ... but when all is said and done, you have to ask your self why? A mix of good acting, could happen circumstances, easy going attitude and cool for school looks can lead to little marvels but in my opinion this movies falls short due to its fame. Its not Pythons, its not even Landis. Its English, pure and simple and any non Anglo-Saxon will find it hard to relate (both in terms of humor and reality checks).
