Upon first seeing the movie, I did not understand how "cult" of a movie I was watching, but Withnail and I is in fact incredibly important the Brit Cannon. Richard Grant's character of Withnail is very well done, even when seemingly filtered through Marwood's (I's) perspective.
His blue-collar reality with white-collar aspirations echo the alcohol consumption throughout. The script is amazingly well written with tons of quotables such as Marwood on the farm - "A coward you are, Withnail.
An expert on bulls you are not." or the decadently plump Monty's "I mean to have you, boy, even if it must be burglary.".
