Review of Withnail & I (1987) by Mike G — 25 Aug 2010
Finally got to see this thanks to Netflix. It's pretty polarizing, and I think it takes a certain appreciation to really love it. I thought it was pretty good, but not really earthshaking like some of the reviews I've read on it.
The accents are pretty thick, but to a trained ear you can definitely make out what they're saying even if you're not English. The humor is pretty subdued, which is natural, and only when Richard E.
Grant cuts loose with rants of drunken or sick verbiage do we get anything that's universally funny. "I feel like a pig shat in my head" he says at one point awaking in the car with a deathly hangover.
That's what you get for drinking lighter fluid ya twit! Anyways, definitely worth a watch, and it's got an interesting soundtrack too.
