Withnail and I is a movie that improves with a bit of distance. While I was watching it, I found it to be exquisitely acted, moderately funny, and quite engaging. But "Great?" But this is a film that has grown in my regard over the past month or so, and I can now understand why it is something of a British National Treasure.
This is not a classic screwball comedy, although it is quite funny, and it is not a tragedy, although it is sometimes quite sad. It is its own thing, something unique. Available to WI on Netflix.
