Review of Withnail & I (1987) by Hannah B — 21 Sep 2010
For me, this is pure genius on a screen. The screenplay is so fantastic it makes you both weep and laugh, sometimes even at the same time! Grant's performance is phenomenal, which brings out the irony that he is playing a failed actor, yet at the end of the film he recites Shakespeare perfectly.
The humor is extremely dark which I can imagine would put people off, hence it being such a cult. I do believe, however, for any person interested in cinema, this is a must see!
