Review of Withnail & I (1987) by Luis G — 13 Jun 2012
Withnail is a very funny film and I think it is probably my favourite. Though its particular in its target audience, which conveniently enough, I am a part of I.E. British student :).
It is very well written and the characters in it are very likeable and like most great comedies it is filled with tragedy, and I think it also serves as a great statement to the 1960's london. Richard E. Grant in this is a legend and highly funny and highly outrageous as a character goes, all the while we are put in the shoes of "I" the paranoid slightly socially awkward room mate. It leads to a great combination of humour and at times sadness. Though there are sooooo many great scenes and I love them all, really funny!!!
It is perfectly acted and the comedy timing is great, I think you have to be English or understand english sentiment to fully enjoy the film however. But, it is a great comedy and its a film that needs to be watched and even today doesn't feel outdated at all.
