Review of With Honors (1994) by Eric C — 18 Oct 2009
With Honors has got to be one of my favorite films from the early 90's. The performances are fantastic, the soundtrack and score fit the film well and the underlining life lessons shown in this film are stand out.
Joe Pesci really shines in this film, playing a bum who is discovered by Brendan Fraser in the libraries basememnt. What we see here from Pesci's performance is a man who has been beaten up by life and by his own admitted regrets, but who keeps on going and looks to the bright side of everything in life. In the end we find ourselves really understnding the connection he makes to the group of rich kids he enters the lives too.
Brendan Frasier was not well known when he made the film, but he manages to keep the viewer entertained. I love how absorbed his character is in the beginning, worried only about his own wants and needs. By the end of middle and than end of the film he gradually grows into a better person, all because of his interaction with Joe Pesci's character. The connection he shares between Monty(aka Harvard)and Simon is incredible.
Moira Kelly and Patrick Dempsy are great supporting characters. Moira is incredibly beautiful in this film and her acting really fits the atmosphere filled with guys. Although, the chemistry between Moira's character and Frasiers is clearly there, I did feel like they had a hard time developing their relationship, but that is the one complaint I have with the film.
The soundtrack and score; like I said above is great. Madonna did a fantastic job at providing the theme song "I'll Remember" for the film, but sadly the music video doesn't appear on the DVD. The Pretenders also hit a home run with their hit "Forever Young. " Great music to listen too, hopefully with Warner Brothers settling their beef with Youtube maybe I can add those songs onto my moviesoundtracks1 account.
Anyone who loves a good drama or just likes one of the main 4 actors in the film, please go see this classic.
4 out of 5.
