Review of Wit (2001) by Carlos A — 16 Oct 2010
A touching and intelligent film, directed by Mike Nichols and starring Emma Thompson. Wit introduces us to the las months of the life of Vivian Bearing, a literature professor who specializes in John Donne's poems. We learn a lot about cancer, but we also learn to know Vivian Bearing as she introduces us to one of John Donne's famous poems about Death. At the end, John Donne was right:
"Death, be no proud, though some have called thee mighty and dreadful, for thou are not so; for those who thou thinkst thou dost overthrow, die not, poor death.".
