Review of Wish Upon (2017) by Real T — 16 Jul 2017
This was easily one of the most engaging movies I've ever had the privilege of viewing. It's fortunate that the most defining characteristic of the film itself was its stiff and unremarkable acting, because the entire audience was so disillusioned by the 20-minute mark that several people felt comfortable vocalizing their candid and helpful advice to Clare in the middle of the movie.
As, I believe, all of us had at that point given up hope that the movie would be anything but forgettable, this rousing commentary gave us a reason to continue watching and increased our emotional investment in the characters.
By the end, I felt as though I had attended a group intervention with Clare, although she may have been deaf to our appeals, and I can say with confidence that I've never felt more comfortable in a movie theater.
Thank you to my fellow audience members for encouraging a unique dialogue with each other and the with the characters. I laughed harder during this movie that I ever have during a comedy, and I believe that watching it with a group of acquaintances would serve as a fantastic teambuilding activity-there's nothing like a shared negative experience, complete with collaborative ridiculing, to cement the bonds of friendship.
