Review of Wish I Was Here (2014) by Paulette S — 27 Jul 2014
Just like Garden State at first I thought this movie was trite, full of quirky, sophomoric humor, cliched moments, a type of film that was self-congratulatory-patting itself on the back with its off-color, cheap attempts at humor.
But then it took a turn and grabbed me from a very deep place and refused to let go. Braff has a way of doing that, making you feel like it's going to be just another movie- inflated with it's own sense of edginess.
But that's just a front- for the more genuine and subtly thoughtful, heartfelt, innocent, and sincere moments. I ended up being really moved and impressed with this movie, despite my desire not to be.
