Review of Wish I Was Here (2014) by Michael J — 28 Jul 2014
Fatal story flaws: Main character completely unlikable (horrible husband, horrible father, and not in funny ways; painful unfunny sit-com speak), but far bigger flaw: the "expensive private school" his kids are forced to leave is portrayed as horrible, truly horrible -- so why that a problem? If they got kicked out of a great school, and their man-child dad had to suddenly get his shit together and home-school them, that would be a great (sympathetic) problem.
But it's so terrible there, you're left squirming and looking at your watch.
