Review of Wish I Was Here (2014) by Ian G — 16 Dec 2014
Wish I was Here was one of those first films out of the gate that were financed by a celebrity through kickstarter, in this case Zach Braff, to notably mixed reviews. It focuses on a Jewish family in the midst of some personal struggles, most notably the impending death of the patriarch through cancer and wasted opportunities for their father and uncle through their slacker attitutes and wasted dreams of pursuing acting.
If anything contains a decent performance for Kate Hudson who has for too long been acting away in the romantic comedy genre, its great to see her actually have some material to work with. Otherwise just middling and kind of one of those personal projects for Zach that doesnt seem to connect with wider audiences.
Maybe why he had to go to kickstarter in the first place? Meh.
