Review of Wish I Was Here (2014) by Mark E — 21 Jul 2014
This is a film about life. This is a film about death. This is a film about success and failure. This is a film about love and loss. But what I took away most from Zach Braff's new directorial effort was the idea of not letting your life pass you by; start living in the present, and make the most of your short time in this world.
While this film is very heartfelt, it's not breaking new ground here; many of its themes have been done before, if not better - even in Braff's previous film "Garden State." The film also has pacing issues, along with some shoddy editing at certain points. But with great performances by Braff, Joey King, Josh Gad, and Mandy Patinkin, and a story that will resonate with its audience, this is another film that raises the quality of this summer's film offerings.
