Review of Wisegal (2008) by Kong M — 22 Jan 2009
I will remember this movie as one of the most powerful movie portrayals of a strong mom I have seen in all my entire life. Throughout this movie is a woman who is so strong to handle life's breakdowns and handle the risks of getting involved in a mob. But what sets this apart from all other movies about mothers is, this mother NEVER BREAKS DOWN EMOTIONALLY, but instead SHE CONTINUES TO THINK HER WAY THROUGH TO SUPPORT HER FAMILY and that gives it the upper-hand of being realistic! and I do believe that this is based on a true story because I believe there are people like her around and I am so glad to come across this testimony of life. And this reminds me alot of my fav 'homeless to harvard', which shared many similarities in the character's strength but this is about a struggling mom instead of a struggling student.
Alyssa Milano really did a splendid job in her role, which I knew she could pull it off with such a standard considering her potential which was evident in 'charmed'. The rest of the cast did really well and the script is strong, not too heavy (which it is not suppose to be heavy, after all this is a lifetime movie) but seems deeper than most of the other lifetimes movies I have watched. In fact this movie is good enough to be of a blockbuster standard.
If u want a deep movie without relying on too much crying and emo-ing but still sparks off the same effect of heart-warming courage and maternal strength, this is a must-see.
