I forced myself to read this book because I knew the movie was coming out. I did not love the book. I had no idea how they could turn this ponderous tome into a watchable movie. Guess what? They couldn't.

By removing many, many parts of the book, and lots of memorable characters, they have pared it down into a love story with no context, and a movie that says nothing. I really liked the actors,and I thought they did a great job with what they had to work with, but what they had to work with was so pointless that there was no saving it.
